This means swelling or inflammation of the small intestines and can present as a variety of symptoms in the bovine.

A common symptom is diarrhoea but this can depend on the cause of the enteritis. Often the animal will display abdominal discomfort but again this will depend on the cause.

Causes of enteritis in the bovine include Johne's disease, endotoxaemia due to such causes as acute coliform mastitis or metritis, parasitic disease and infectious agents such as Salmonella, Bovine Diarrhoeal Virus. Non inflammatory disease causes include cardiac failure, lymphosarcoma, toxins and poisons and spoiled silage.
