Lydney Park Open Day 2013

Published 27 September 13

Farmers will have the opportunity to hear how the team at Lydney Park Farm, in Gloucestershire, managed the change from a high input, fully housed, year-round calving system, to a split autumn and spring block system, at an LIC (Livestock Improvement Corporation) open day on 10 October.

The next step in the farm’s development will also be discussed by the unit manager at Lydney – DairyCo Board member and Forage for Knowledge contributor Keith Davis – and his team, as, by next year, both of the farm’s dairy units will have moved to spring calving and once a day milking (OAD).

The aim to increase profit by maximising the use of grazing, and breeding the most efficient cow for the system, were at the root of all the changes on site. The open day is a chance to hear more about how the team tackled this challenge and how the move to OAD milking is going.

All farmers are welcome to attend the open day; to book a place clik here.

Notes from last year’s event are available on the DairyCo website
