US milk production forecast increases

The latest USDA World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimate report marginally increases the forecasted figure for US 2016 milk production. The September report increases by 44m litres on the August forecast, which puts the 2016 US milk production forecast at 93,476m litres. The increase is attributed to stabilising herd size, which has occurred as a result of expected improvements in milk prices. If this was to come into fruition, it would see US milk production increase 1,585m litres on 2015 levels.

The 2017 forecast was also increased, up to 95,194m litres, an increase of 1,718m litres on the 2016 projection. This is down to an anticipation of a growth in milk yield per cow.
