EU cattle slaughterings on the rise

Published 14 September 16

EU cow and heifer slaughterings in the first half of 2016 are above those seen in the same period the year before. While the figures are beef and dairy combined, a number of EU countries that have published increased figures, such as Germany, Netherlands and Poland, are dominated by dairy cattle. Therefore it is fair to assume that sustained low milk prices is impacting culling decisions. The impact of this has been seen with EU milk production as production growth against last year has been easing while June figures were lower than 2015.
