EU aid payments reach UK farmers’ bank accounts

Support payments from the EU’s agricultural aid package have now started arriving in UK dairy farmers’ bank accounts, Defra has announced. Payments began to roll out on 16 November and this will continue through the rest of the month and into December.

The payment is a flat rate linked to milk production, which has been confirmed as just under 0.176 pence per litre (ppl) in England, Scotland and Wales. Farmers in Northern Ireland will receive a higher rate of around 0.226ppl, which Defra says is in recognition of them receiving some of the lowest milk prices in Europe.

Farmers in England who have received a letter from the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) advising them to register or provide bank details have been asked to call the RPA’s helpline on 03000 200 301. Defra say farmers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who are not registered will be added to the system using information provided by the devolved administrations.
