Wheat prices steady, but for how long?

Published 19 May 16

It has been suggested that farmers are currently not selling stored wheat, which is supporting prices. However, over the coming months, farmers may need that storage for this years’ crop.

This may push prices back down again, for the short term at least, depending on the amount of stored stock and storage space.

Longer term, the condition of this years’ global crop will drive the sentiment for future prices movements. Currently the UK’s winter crop is slightly ahead of average development, although delays to pesticide applications may cause some issues, according to ADAS UK Ltd in a recent AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Prospects article.
