FMP produces negative figure for first time in a year

Published 8 March 17

AHDB’s Future Market Performance (FMP*) indicator has produced a negative figure for the first time in a year.

Negative movements in wholesale and future markets caused both the EU AMPE and FMPE to fall this month. However, FMPE was affected more, causing it to fall below the AMPE level. The decrease in FMPE was largely down to reductions in SMP prices. Butter futures faltered through January and into early February before some level of recovery in the latter weeks of the month.

This impact on FMP suggests those involved in futures market believe the supply/demand balance will alter in the coming months, favouring supply.
