Fonterra opens new European plant

NZ’s biggest processor, Fonterra, has officially opened its new European processing plant in the Netherlands. It is an investment in the high-value paediatric, maternal and sports nutrition markets.

Working alongside Dutch cheese manufacturer Royal A-ware, the plant will process by-products from cheese-making into whey protein and lactose ingredients. The plant is expected to process 1 billion litres of milk per year, producing 5,000 tonnes of whey protein and 25,000 tonnes of lactose.
