Profitable Pastures – Making your soils deliver!

Published 8 April 15

DairyCo and EBLEX are hosting the webinar ‘Profitable Pastures – Making your soils deliver!’ with Dr Elizabeth Stockdale, researcher at Newcastle University on Wednesday 15 April 2015 at 19:00.

“Soil is one of the most important assets farmers have. It is unique in each field; it’s dynamic and changes constantly. Ultimately, the health of the soil underpins the health of the pasture and livestock.”

“Soil compaction and fertility remain key barriers to making better use of grass on many dairy farms. Improving overall soil health can result in better grass yields, increased nutrient efficiency and easier soil working conditions,” according to DairyCo research and development manager Dr Debbie McConnell.

 The webinar will cover:

  • A healthy soil, what does it look like?
  • The role of biology in grassland soils
  • Assessing soil structure
  • What improving soil biology means for grassland productivity?

Dr Stockdale has recently been involved in the Healthy Grassland Soils programme, a DairyCo-EBLEX funded project developing tools to help farmers assess and improve grassland soil performance.
